El Pretérito Pluscuamperfecto se forma con el Pretérito Imperfecto del verbo haber (había) + el Participio de Pasado del verbo.
(It is formed by the Pretérito Imperfecto -había- of the verb haber + the past participle of the verb being used -forms -ado, -ido-.)

– Para hablar en el presente de algo que ocurrió en el pasado ANTES de otro suceso ocurrido también en el pasado.
(When we want to talk about something occured in the past BEFORE another hapenning in the past.)

Anoche me fui pronto a la cama porque ya había visto el año pasado la película que ponían en la televisión.
(Last night I went to bed early because I had already seen the film that was on tv.)

Cuando llegué ayer a casa de Ana su padre se había ido a trabajar.
Anoche llegué al estadio a las diez y cuando entré ya había empezado el partido.
No pude ayudarles. Ya habían terminado el trabajo cuando llegué a su casa.
