THE CITY:
- Population: approximately 9.000 inhabitants.
- Location: the town of Urubamba, situated 57Km from the city of Cuzco, extends along the sides of the Southern Mountain Range, in a narrow valley through which runs the Vilcanota river, called Wilka Mayu or Sacred river, making up the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
- The Incas, great astronomers, represented the villages in this marvellously fertile valley as the constellations they saw in the Milky Way, named by them as "Mayu" or heavenly river.
CULTURAL / RECREATIONAL:
- The Sacred Valley of the Incas, running along the river Vilcanota, is one of the most beautiful archaeological spot's in Peru.
- The magnificent ruins in Pisac and the well preserved Inca city, Ollantaytambo, with its impressive fort, which is the starting point on the way to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
- From Urubamba you can leave once again down river, towards an interesting tourist route that features the house caves of Pichingoto, the circular terraces of Moray and the salt mines of Maras.
- Visit the colourful and traditional market in Chincheros.

Urubamba is a small, quiet city, far from the yourist trail, with its picturesque valleys and colourful, traditional markets. The climate in Urubamba is perfect throughout the year. It also possesses fabulous countryside with panoramic views of the valley and of the imposing and majestic snow-capped peaks of the Vilcanota Range.
