Common mistakes in Spanish – Z

Z: Z vs. C

In Spanish, the letter Z must only be used with the vowels A, O and U. Before an E or an I, the letter C is used instead.

Example:
Correct: Los cíngaros tocaban una corneta de cinc mientras una cebra bailaba.
Incorrect: Los zíngaros tocaban una corneta de zinc mientras una zebra bailaba.
