Letter y
Y / E
We use y to join two words or clauses, but if the word following "y" begins with "i-" or "hi-" we change the y to e.
Ejemplo:
Incorrect: *Vinieron Juan y Irene.
The correct form is: Vinieron Juan e Irene.
Yoes
The plural of "yo" when it acts as a noun.
Ejemplo:
Todos tenemos muchos yoes.
Yudo / judo
Both forms are accepted by the Royal Academy, though the former seems more appropriate since it conforms to Spanish phonetic rules. In both cases the first letter is pronounced as in the word "yo".
Ejemplo:
El deporte que más me gusta es el judo.
