Playa del Carmen Travel Guide

Packing for a Trip to Mexico

When packing for a trip to Mexico, here are some of the essential things you need to bring:

1. Documents

It is necessary to carry with you all your important documents to avoid any hassle when traveling to Playa del Carmen. Necessary documents include your proof of citizenship, such as your birth certificate, your passport or a valid ID. Minors may require a notarized consent form signed by their parents. At the start of your trip, you will be given a tourist card. It is a good idea to bring this around with you while you are in Mexico.

2. Clothing

When going to Playa del Carmen, a variety of clothing is a must. The dress code in most of the areas is casual, although some restaurants have more formal dress codes that forbid the use of shorts and sandals. Beach clothing, such as swimsuits and flip-flops, are necessary. Also bring cover-ups, which you will need when leaving the beach. Clothes made of cotton and similar natural material are recommended to keep you cool and comfortable. If you plan on going during the winter, it is a good idea to brig a jacket or a sweater, as it can get quite cold at night. Some tourists also bring their own scuba diving equipment, although you may also opt to rent from stores around the area. If your itinerary includes tours on land, bring light clothing, caps or hats, and comfortable shoes. For jungle tours, wear long-sleeved tops and long pants.

3. Camera

Taking pictures and videos will make your trip more memorable. If you plan to dive or snorkel, you may want to bring along an underwater camera. A cheaper alternative would be to buy a waterproof bag where you can place your camera in, to help you take pictures underwater.

4. Other Essentials

It is also important to being insect repellant, especially if you plan to go on various tours. As with a trip to any other country, it is also important to bring a first aid kit. You may also want to bring a Spanish-English dictionary and a guidebook to Playa del Carmen.
