Due to its incredibly diverse geography and thriving indigenous population, there is a huge variety of parks in Guatemala. Most notably perhaps are its natural parks which encompass everything from mountains to volcanoes, lakes to beaches, although Mayan sites make up a large proportion of the country’s parks too.

Lake Atitlan is without doubt the most famous Guatemalan natural park with is fabulous setting nestled among the volcanoes and it attracts hundreds of tourists each year. Many of the volcanoes themselves are natural parks, for example the continuously erupting Pacaya in the south of Guatemala is incredibly popular with tourists too, and is definitely a unique experience for many!

Tikal National Park is the most popular national park in Guatemala. With its incredibly well-preserved Mayan ruins, and its proximity to the beautiful town of Flores is it easy to see why. Surrounded by a nature reserve, a visit to Tikal is unforgettable as monkeys and macaws accompany travelers from road to city.

As is expected with a tropical destination, Guatemala is also home to numerous water parks, while theme parks and zoos with many species indigenous to the country are also in abundance. These, alongside the many national and natural parks to be found in Guatemala, ensure that there is always something to keep travelers entertained!
