Common mistakes in Spanish – I

Incautar

This is incorrect. The correct verb in Spanish is incautarse. It is pronominal and it is usually used with the preposition de.

Example:
Incorrect: "La policía incautó la cocaína".
Correct: La policía se incautó de diecisiete millones de euros en billetes falsos.


Indio / hindú

Indio: Is used to refer to inhabitants of India and, due to the famous historical confusion, it is also used to refer to Native Americans.
Hindú: Person who practices the religion of the same name. The plural is "hindúes".

Example:
Hay indios musulmanes e hindúes.
