Common mistakes in Spanish – J

J: Garaje vs. Garage

Words that end in –aje in Spanish, such as lenguaje and garaje, are often incorrectly spelled with a G: language, garage. This mistake may be due to the fact that in languages such as English and French, these words are correctly spelled with a G. It is important to remember that in Spanish, all words that end in –aje are always spelled with a J.

Example:
Correct: Tengo que alquilar un garaje para mi coche nuevo.
(I have to rent a garage for my new car).
Incorrecto: Tengo que alquilar un garage para mi coche nuevo.
