Golf in Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Playa Car Club de Golf, Playa del Carmen

Apart from typically being a destination for sun-worshippers and beach-lovers, Playa del Carmen is now also turning into a top choice for golf enthusiasts as it is strategically located in close proximity to some of the most beautiful golf courses in the world. It has been said that in the very near future, Playa el Carmen is anticipated to become one of the top golf destinations.

The most popular among these is the Playacar Golf Course at the Playacar Spa & Golf Club, right at the heart of the tourist zone. This magnificent 18-hole, par 72 golf course designed by renowned architect Robert Van Hagge, is highly acclaimed as being one of the best golf courses in the world and is regarded as one of the toughest and most challenging as well. A definite must for the golfer who loves a good challenge.

The Club de Golf Puerto Aventuras is located nearby at Puerto Aventuras. Just 15 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, it is an upscale resort community known primarily for its marina, the only one you can find in the Riviera Maya. The Puerto Aventuras golf course is a 9-hole, par 36 beauty designed by Thomas Leeman in 1991. It is surrounded by palm trees and lush foliage and is still one of the best-kept secrets in the area.

Another golf course nearby worth mentioning, the Moon Palace golf course (at the Moon Palace Spa and Golf Club in Cancun) is located just 10 minutes from the Cancun airport. This Jack Nicklaus designed, 18-hole, par 72 course currently ranks as one of the best if not the best golf course in the Riviera Maya. Nicklaus had to modify the design of this course several times in order to conform to the objective building a world-class golf-course without harming the environment.
