Festivals & Special Events in Puerto Vallarta

Festivals in Mexico

There is never a dull moment in Puerto Vallarta. A full schedule of exciting festivals and interesting events make up the city's calendar year, meaning there is always something happening in town.

The festivals in Mexico begin with New Year's Day followed by the Day of the Kings. February ushers in the commemoration of Constitution Day (February 5), Friendship or Valentine's Day, the National Charro Tournament, and the Mexican Flag Day. An International Yacht Race from Marina del Rey to Puerto Vallarta normally takes place during this month as well.

The merriment continues on to March with the celebration of Carnaval (first Tuesday), immediately followed Ash Wednesday, Saint Patrick's Day (March 17) and Benito Juarez Day (March 21). April brings with it the Holy Week celebration and spring break for schools. The whole month of May is teeming with the festivities of Labor Day, Cinco de Mayo, Mother's Day, and the Cultural Festival of May. The revelry continues onto the months of June, July and August as the country welcomes and takes pleasure in the arrival of the summer season.

Nationalism and cultural pride become even more apparent during September as the whole month is devoted to the commemoration of Mexico's independence. October pays tribute to United Nations Day and Halloween and signals the beginning of autumn.

Festivities reach their peak as the end of the year approaches. Dia de Todos Santos (All Soul's Day), Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), the Festival of the Arts, the International Gourmet Festival, the International Film Festival, the anniversary of the Mexican Revolution, the International Sailfish Tournament, and Thanksgiving Day all take place during the month of November. Finally, the Guadalupe Processions, the Festival of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Puerto Vallarta's birthday, and the Christmas holidays in December signal the end of another wonderful year in this beautiful paradise!

No matter what time of the year you go, you're sure to experience a special Puerto Vallarta celebration!
