Beaches in Mar del Plata
La Perla Beach: La Perla Beach is one of the original beaches of the city. Close to this area are some of the oldest neighborhoods and typical commercial and leisure areas. As one of the top tourist sites, La Perla Beach received its name because Mar del Plata is known as “la Perla” (the pearl) of the Atlantic. The area has many important seaside resorts with great beach access.
Bristol Beach: Bristol Beach is located near Torreón del Monje, an important viewpoint of the city. Next to the beach is the Gran Hotel Provincial, a project done by the architect Alejandro Bustillo in 1946. The hotel’s fabulous location has made it a favorite for those visiting Mar del Plata.
Varese Beach: If you follow Colon Avenue, it will take you to Varese Beach and Cape Corrientes. This area offers excellent views making it a great place to go for a walk. Additionally, there are many bars and restaurants in the area where you can sample the local cuisine.
Chica Beach and Grande Beach: Following the coast towards the south, you will come to a particularly charming area. The beaches are located between magnificent rock outcrops with parks and green areas around them. This zone is very close to the city’s port and probably offers some of the best amenities for beach goers.
The southern beaches: These are probably the most popular beaches for the younger generations. The beaches are further away from the hustle and bustle of the city and close to a magnificent forested area. Due to their location, these beaches boast cleaner waters and exclusive resorts. The development of this area came from the need of the tourism industry. Although tourists here are a bit further from Mar del Plata, the resorts are equipped with excellent infrastructure, services and amenities. Some offer aquatic sport options as well as 4X4 vehicle rentals to complete your Argentine adventure.
Escondida Beach: This beach is located among the southern beaches. The surrounding area is typical of the Atlantic with wilderness areas, dunes and beautiful cliffs. Escondida Beach has a remote location away from the city maintaining its untouched landscape of meadows and small woods with large bird populations. Additionally, Escondida Beach is proud to have been the first nudist beach in Argentina.
