Feria del libro (Until May 12)
The 2013 Book Fair in Seville, set up in the Plaza Nueva, will be dedicated to the writer from Jerez, J. M. Caballero Bonald. The main activities this year will centre around this literary figure.
Homenaje a Caballero Bonald (Until May 12)
Lorenzo Silva, winner of the Premio Planeta (Planet Award) for “La marca del meridiano” is officially opening the 2013 Book Fair in Seville, that is taking place between the 1st and the 12th May in the Plaza Nueva. This year the event is dedicated to J. M. Caballero Bonald with the motto "Memory and Fiction". The conference of Lorenzo Silva is being announced on the 1st May in the afternoon.
Visitas al camposanto (Until April 30)
The cemetery of Granada,considered as the second oldest of Spain after Poblenou in Barcelona, is offering the possibility of guided tours. The visits, which begin on the 1st May, are to be held for a minimum of 10 and maximum of 30 people during the weekends and holidays, in Spanish and English at first,although the possiblilty of hiring French and German speakers as tourguides has been considered in case the need arises.
May festivals (Until May 31)

Exhibitions and workshops in the T.E.A. (Until May 31)
During the month of May, the Tenerife Arts Space (TEA) is offering several interesting exhibitions: - "Chance of love", by Mexican Teresa Serrano (videoart) - "Vacuum challenges" by Bethlehem Morales (painting). These exhibitions welcome groups of school children, from primary school age up to high school level, who study topics that have some relation with the exhibits. Admission to the exhibition is free until the end of May.
Sevilla en bicicleta (Until May 1)
Seville has been included as the fourth best city in the world to ride in a list called: "Copenhagenize 2013", which encompasses all the bicycle-friendly cities in one user-friendly document. Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Utrech have been ranked in first, second and third place on the list respectively. Copenhagenize 2013 recognized Sevilla for its promotion of the use of the bike, which rose from 0.5% in 2006 to 7% today, due largely to the construction of 80 miles of bike lanes in one year and the implementation of the public bike system, "Sevici".
Water Fountain Show in Montjuic. (Until September 29)
This weekend, the new schedule commences for the show of music, color and water that takes place in Montjuic.
May-Day crosses (Until May 5)
On the Day of the Cross, the city of Granada will decorate itself with more than 80 crosses. This celebration usuallu only lasts one day, but this year it is due to take place over an entire weekend.
Javier Porto - photography (Until June 16)
"La Térmica" in Malaga is hosting a photography exhibition, heavily influenced by Warhol, that reflects a period as dynamic as Madrid's "Movida" of 1980.
Rock in Cadiz
The Spanish rock performer, Quique González, is presenting his latest album "Delantera mítica" in Cadiz on the 4th of the month at 10pm.
Hot Flushes (Half a century is nothing) (Until May 5)
"Sofocos (Que medio siglo no es nada)" / "Hot Flushes (Half a century is nothing)" is a comedy about the problems encountered by women as they spproach their 50th birthdays. This comedy sketch tells the story of a housewifeand recreates the characters of Coco Chanel and Juana la Loca. A humorous performance with various musical numbers. Saturday: 21:00 until 23:30; Sunday: 18:00 to 21:00.
La Unión en concierto
Concert by the long standing musical group: "The Union in Granada" is taking place in the Manuel de Falla Auditorium on May 4 at 21:00. "The forms change, the essence remains"
La OST y los musicales
Tenerife symphony orchestra is putting in its second production of gerat musicals. At 8:30pm in the Symphony Room of Tenerife Auditorium, "Adán Martín", under the direction of Englishman David Firman and the intervention of Welsh vocalist, Leo Andrew, is offering a repertoire of numerous musicals including "My Fair Lady", "The Producers", "Man of the Mancha" and "Sunset Boulevard", among others.
La Casa de Pilatos, with music (Until June 30)
Every Sunday throughout May and June, "Engranajes culturales" and "Dolce Rima" (a duo of Renaissance and Baroque music) are offering music lovers the opportunity to visit the Casa de Pilatos, one of the most important artistic centres in Seville. In this way, visitors can interpret its architecture and Roman art collection via live opera performances.
Poetry Festival (Until May 11)
The International Poetry Festival of Granada celebrates its 10th awards ceremony with the most important personality of contemporary Russian poetry: Evgeny Yevtushenko, accompanied by the winner of last years "García Lorca" award, Pablo García Baena, and singer Manolo Garcia, former member of musical group, "Último de la Fila". This year's edition of the International Poetry Festival Awards starts on the 7th May in the Huerta de San Vicente, the summer residence of Garcia Lorca, with poetry readings by Luis García Montero (poet) and Juan Diego Botto (actor).
Flamenco in "La Maestranza"
Israel Galván, one of the current greats of flamenco, is giving a master class of choreography on Wednesday 8th May at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville. The event is organized by the Author Foundation of the General Society of Authors of Spain.
The Opera Festival of Tenerife 2013 (Until December 31)
The Opera Festival of the capital of Tenerife opens with the opera "The Fairy Queen" by Purcell on the 8th May. The program will last until December.
MUECA 2013 (Until May 12)
Puerto de la Cruz

The project "Tenerife Opera" organized by "Friends of the Opera" starts this week with the presentation of the "fairy queen" by Henry Purcell in the “Adán Martín” Auditorium in Tenerife until 12th May.
EQUISUR, 22ª edición (Until May 12)
Coinciding with the Jerez Horse Fair in Cádiz, Equisur celebrates its twenty-second meeting on the premises of the trade fair of Cádiz, which will bring together horses from all over Spain. Until Sunday the 12th May.
Educational concerts (Until May 12)
About 4,000 students get together this week in the auditorium "Teobaldo Power de la villa de La Orotava" to watch a selection of educational concerts put on by the Symphony Orchestra of Tenerife. Matinee concerts are available too on Saturdays and Sunday from 11am. Admission is free.
