Puerto Vallarta is situated in the Bahía de Banderas, in the state of Jalisco around 352 km away from the capital of the state, Guadalajara. It is found at the end point of the Sierra Madre Occidental. It is found in an area of amazing beauty: rivers with waterfalls and jungle. It normally has a yearly average temperature of 27ºC.

Since the 70s it has become a major international tourist destination and tourism has been one of the economic motors of the area. John Huston shot Puerto Vallarta into the spotlight with his film "La Noche de la Iguana" (The night of the Iguana), in which Richard Burton, Ava Gardner and Deborah Kerr starred. The same film was shot on the famous beach of Puerto Vallarta called Playa Mismaloya.

One of the best places to go diving is the area which goes by the name of Los Arcos. They are rocky mountains which emerge from the sea. If you get the opportunity to go scuba diving you will be able to enjoy the underwater mountains and walls under the sea populated by tropical marine life.

Puerto Vallarta also offers many opportunities to do urban activities. One can visit the Palace and see the decor of its walls by the painter Manuel Lepe. Manuel Lepe was considered the most important naïf Mexican painter of his time. The museum dedicated to this artist can also be visited in Puerto Vallarta with some of his original works.

The pleasant weather of Puerto Vallarta can be enjoyed by walking along the jetty filled with sculptures. Or take a stroll through the central streets where art galleries and shops can be visited. Marina Vallarta is the maritime club where you will be able take pleasure in looking at the amazing yachts and boats anchored in the harbor. It also has a golf course and exclusive boutiques.

You will have the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent sunset which has made Puerto Vallarta known worldwide. From the open-air restaurants you will see how the sun slips away into the pacific whilst experiencing the best dishes from the province.

It is also possible to make the most of the sea and enjoy water sports like surfing or sport fishing. Puerto Vallarta is the ideal place to practice fish sailing and it is the place where the tournament of the same sport is celebrated every year.
